Poetry Corner

…through conscious breathing and copious reading,
It is possible to heal—just ask Keating.
But I won’t lie and say the journey’s easy—
It’s often one step forward...
and two steps back.

from The Rhythmic Sting & Irregularity of Pain’s Deathly Blows

Here you will find a curated body of my poetry, both older works and evolving creations. I will rotate and release these as they resonate.

For Robert Lowell, poetry not only captured events in time, space, emotion, and reason, but it also created events. For him, and for fellow poets (myself included), poetry possesses a power to communicate emotion before understanding. There is a creative struggle, an imperfection—a battle for truth ever waged yet never quite attained. There is confusion in meaning yet beauty in open interpretation.

For me, I appreciate that everyone takes away something different from poetry. It provides an outlet to express yourself in a way where you can hide behind the cloak of ambiguity if need be, yet still lay yourself bare in the confessional of the artistic gallery. And in that gallery, others see themselves through your mirrors. The reflection; however, is their own.

But sometimes everything I write
with the threadbare art of my eye
seems a snapshot.

— Robert Lowell, from “Epilogue” in Day by Day (1977)
