Heart On The Sidewalk

Some of what I write is heavy. Some of it’s light.
But all of it’s honest.
If you like that kind of space, I’d be honored to have you here.
Heart On The Sidewalk
A poem by Drew Gaither, Fall 2023
I thought I saw you today. My heart noticeably palpitated, and I forgot to breathe. Could it have been you? Heaven’s—how would I know? But logic suggests it likely wasn’t. Yet my heart throbbed the way only you ever made it do. When the hell did you leave me drowning in blue? But blue, for me, is really red— so it goes in my head. You left me in red, yet I forgive you still. But attrition… I receive none. What labors must I take to end this dismal fate— this one part of my life that’s always half-baked? God, grant me someone new, or my old friend Blue. I’ll serve your karmic punishment— just let me breathe. Love, Drew.
